Frequently asked questions

What is Academic mobility?

Academic mobility - it is a transfer of students and teachers-researchers for studying or conducting a research in a particular academic period: semester, or an academic year to another higher education (within the country or abroad) with obligatory transfer of complete educational programs in the form of credits in his/her university or for continuing studying in another university.

What is ECTS?

ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) - was implemented in 1989 by the European Commission as a method of assigning credits points (credits) for academic recognition. The ECTS system allows to credit the studying at university by another university, including foreign university. The ECTS system is the basis of the international mobility of students.

ECTS Credits

ECTS has its own system based on the measurements of students' effort. Students efforts include the lectures attendance, class hours and hours for independent work. It also includes the work of preparing for exams and other event tests. ECTS credits represent the amount of work required for each course in relation to the total quantity of work necessary to complete a full year of academic study at the university.

The total annual load in ECTS system equals to 60 credits, i.e. for 30 credits per one semester. One ECTS credit equals to 25-30 academic hours.

The application of student by ECTS type

After selecting the accepting university, a student fills in the ECTS application form. To fill in the form, a student should already have an idea of the curriculum which he wants to master in the accepting university, to create an agreement in details together with the institutional coordinator of academic mobility and coordinator of academic mobility of native university department.

In the student's application form the name and full address of the sending university, surname, name and patronymic of the academic mobility program coordinator of the Department, as well as the student's personal information (name, surname, patronymic, date of birth, address, contact details).

An application form provides an information on the motivation of students to participate in mobility programs, information on the level of qualifications for language learning abroad, work experience and previous studying abroad, a mark on the possibility of getting a scholarship to study abroad.

Three-party agreement on studying

An agreement on the academic mobility training program is the main document governing the student's learning process on the academic mobility program and should be filled out in English according to form.

If the decision is positive of the accepting university for students' participating in the academic mobility, an agreement is signed in a tripartite manner: by the accepting university, student and the sending university.

The current Agreement describing the curriculum abroad should be signed before the student arrives at the accepting institution.

Is it possible to put changes to the agreed curriculum in the Agreement on studying?

Yes, it is possible. The students upon arrival at the accepting university may modify the agreed curriculum due to the following reasons: timing trims, conflicts of chosen courses (on level or content), etc. Therefore, a form of an agreement on the studying provides for amendments to the originally agreed curriculum / Studying Agreement.

In order to guarantee a full academic recognition of all course units completed abroad, all parties must be agreed on amendments. It is very important for the student to know that finally selected courses and curriculums must be approved by sending and accepting universities for full academic recognition. Changes which were made to the originally agreed curriculum are marked on the reverse side of the studying contract and duly are re-signed in it by the student and coordinators of the sending and accepting universities.

Studying transcript

The final document confirming the studying of the student upon the mobility program is studying transcript.

An information on the curriculum (codes of disciplines) should be included to the studying transcript shall be entered, the name of discipline, the duration of studying of the subject (year, semester, trimester), grade for studying (at national scale and ECTS scale), the number of awarded ECTS credits.

In case of successful studying for the whole curriculum, a mark of awarded degree is made.

The reference (additional) information on the specifics of the curriculum is specified in the studying transcript: the description of the university evaluation system; ECTS evaluation system; number of ECTS credits per academic year, semester, trimester.
