KazNU was among the first universities in Kazakhstan and CIS countries that adopted international “bachelor-master-doctor” system of professional education. Since 2009 the university has been offering programs with degree awarded by two universities simultaneously.
In the framework of the NIS Network University KazNU offers ,aster’s programs in economics, management, law, philology, international relations jointly with Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, St. Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations. At present 27 KazNU master students are enrolled into double degree programs of the CIS Network University.
KazNU as a main coordinating institution in the framework of the SCO Network University takes part in realization of master’s programs of inclusive education in ecology, regional studies, nanotechnology. As a result of studygraduates will be awarded special certificates. In the autumn semester of the academic year 2011-2012 in the framework of the SCO Network University KazNU master students of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology Kishibayev K., Temirkhanova G. studied in Belgorod National Research University. Master students of the Department of Geography and Nature Management Akberliyev A., Aubakirova R., Beknazarova A., Duisenbek J., Mironova M., Tuleuova A., Cthaimerdinova L., Kelbuganova Sh. studied in Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
On the basis of bilateral agreement of France-Kazakhstan cooperation for establishing research and educational center in geoenergetics in the RK al-Farabi Kazakh National University launched a double degree mater’s program “Subterranean Reservoirs of Energy” and doctoral school in geoenergetics jointly with National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine. In the academic year 2011-2012 master students Iskakov B., Ibraimkul D., Kapalbekova M., and doctoral students Toleukhanov A., Kuldjabekov A. of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics are instructed in France.
KazNU concluded the Agreement on cooperation in higher education, science and culture and Agreement on development and realization of joint double degree master program with Tomsk Polytechnic University on 25th August, 2008. In 2011 master students of the Department of Physics and Engineering Turgaliev Darkhan and Ospanova Madina successfully defended their dissertations and were awarded master degrees by the two universities. On the defense day TPU professors noted scientific value of the research done by Darkhan and proposed him enrollment into a doctoral program of TPU.
In the academic year 2012-2013 KazNU starts new double degree master programs for the student of Departments of Oriental Studies, Philosophy and Political Science and International Relations jointly with Yonsei University (South Korea).
