REPORT

On November 14, 2011, was held a student conference on “Kazakhstan and the world community”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The conference was held at the initiative of the Chair of Diplomatic Translation of the Faculty of International Relations of KazNU named after al-Faraby, and the personal assistance of senior teacher of English – Nurgaliyeva Maira Nurgaliyevna.

The formulation of conceptual basis and principles of Kazakh foreign policy was started shortly after Kazakhstan gained its independence on December 16, 1991. 20 years ago Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, has clearly determined the main strategy of Kazakh diplomacy – creating and maintaining favorable conditions for the steady development of the country on the basis of political and economical reforms.

The student conference on “Kazakhstan and the world community” brought together teachers, students and activists, interested in the direction of the main achievements in the independent development of Kazakhstan during the last 20 years with the pertinent and relevant international political issues of our time.

The Conference consisted of 9 panels, ranging from topics such as “United Nations and Kazakhstan: 20 years of successful partnership” to “The European Union – Kazakhstan cooperation”.

Students prepared reports on the analysis of Kazakhstan’s relations with the world's leading countries and international organizations, such as UN, NATO and OSCE. It was a unique opportunity for students to get latest date information, exchange views and share ideas.

The Conference was open to everyone and many students from different Chairs attended. After the speech, the authors of reports graciously answered questions from the audience. A short discussion was completed on the final speech of associate professor of KazNU - Suleimenova Gulsum Seilhankyzy. Closing of the conference was marked by a solemn award of grateful diplomas.
